The Challenge

Arηs Spikeseed was asked to do the migration to AWS Cloud for two IT ecosystems. These IT ecosystems are now entirely within the AWS Cloud, after having been a hybrid solution previously with 2 private on-prem datacenters in Barcelona.

For a successful migration, Arηs Spikeseed was required to do careful planning, execution, and ongoing management to ensure a smooth transition and optimal performance in the cloud environment.

About the project

Arηs Spikeseed migrated Alpega data centers from on-prem to AWS via a lift and shift, as modernizing/refactoring part of the software was not an option. EDB was used as an abstraction layer between legacy Oracle DB to AWS RDS PostgreSQL, so that the queries triggered from software remain unchanged. CloudEndure was used with Migration Hub to centralize the inventory information, to group applications, for replication and cut-over of servers moved to AWS.

To execute the migration to AWS for Alpega, Arηs Spikeseed:

• First assessed the readiness of the information systems and the staff of Alpega
• Quantified the hosting cost optimization opportunities and improvement in the efficiency of infrastructure management
• Addressed the gaps and identified the applications subject to re-hosting
• Provided added value by suggesting workloads to be retired

Project Solution

Arηs Spikeseed Migration to AWS solution builds up on substantial internal investment and extensive experience. As a result, Arηs Spikeseed can migrate a wide variety of environments, both on-prem and in the cloud. The knowledge and processes created over the years are a determining factor in successfully migrating Alpega’s complex and hybrid ecosystem.

AWS CloudEndure was used to simplify the migration process by automating the replication of servers and applications from on-premises or other cloud platforms to AWS. We streamlined the migration journey and minimized the risk of data loss or downtime, and overall incidents.

The professionalism of Arηs Spikeseed was key in gaining trust of Alpega to receive the responsibility of migrating their IT Environments. Migrating on-premises data centers to the cloud is a complex process that requires a well-planned and carefully executed project plan.
